i've been very tempted to try to put together a mini-version of our downtown. but then i wonder if i should try a full sized (ok, full sized in the lego sense) version first.
my son has the full sized department store. he got it for Xmas. it's probably my favorite set of everything he has (and he does have a lot).
An update: I put together a stop-motion video of me assembling one of the buildings, in case you're curious and have 47 seconds to blow. http://youtu.be/2F_bzAmHbxY
Alan Rife: No, regular size, although most of them are the smallest LEGO blocks they make (e.g., 1x1 thin).
barefoot meg So far, it's really fun. I dislike kits that have lots of dedicated/specialized parts, and this one has only a couple...most are general-purpose bricks that have been assembled in a creative way to give the illusion of architectural features. It is, IMO, what LEGO used to be and ought to be more like today.
I love the fire escape!!!! That's my favorite part, I think. Of course, the whole thing is pretty incredible at that scale. But I never would have expected a fire escape.
Ya big kid. :D
ReplyDeleteWas this from your twelfth birthday, Craig? If so, you're mighty patient ;)

ReplyDeleteYep. There are tons of clever little details like that. I can see why they consider this an "expert" set...even I got confused a couple of times.
