After reading about the changes made in Soylent v1.4, including a more palatable texture, less GI distress, and no messy oils to add, I decided I will give it a try. Carefully controlling my caloric intake while saving time and ensuring a nutritious diet are my goals. After I receive the 1-week supply I just ordered, I will continue to post updates and reactions to what is sure to be an interesting experiment. More later.

  3. Read the website Olivier Malinur. While it was named with reference to the iconic movie (as a joke), it most certainly is a real, and serious, product.

I recently tried an early version (it still required the oil additive).  If it were gluten free and dropped the sucralose, then I think I'd be willing to try it longer than the 1-week supply I used.  I'm sure they're on the right track for a useful product. (p.s. Yes, it gave me copious gas for 1-3 hours after drinking.)

  7. Terry Walker Yeah, of all the ingredients, only the sucralose presents me with any concerns at all. I'm allergic to (or have a bad reaction to) aspartame, but I'm not sure whether that will happen with the sucralose in the Soylent. That's why I only ordered a week's worth...just to see. And yeah, supposedly 1.4 produces far less gas...good for those of us who cohabitate with other living things.

  8. Terry Walker Out of curiosity, re your 'gluten free' stance.. Are you a diagnosed celiac sufferer? The food industry has been pushing gluten - free products to the potential health degradation of non - celiac sufferers.. unethically so. #JustSayin

  10. Craig Froehle Sucralose (Splenda) is utterly unrelated to Aspartame.  I never knowingly consume Aspartame; if I'm buying something like diet iced tea, I always read the label carefully to ensure that it's sweetened without any Aspartame (which usually means it's sweetened with Splenda).

  15. I became very ill about 15 years ago and lost 50 lbs. ( Off a 6'2" frame 190lbs) I couldn't seem to tolerate food without incredible abdominal pain. So I existed on isolated whey protein. When I diccovered that Crohns disease was the culprit, it took many years of trial and error to figure out a diet that worked for me. In a nutshell it's a mostly meat and egg diet. Grains for the most part are out. Gluten free breads seem to be okay in moderation. Most vegetables cause pain in digestion. The upside of this diet is that eliminating almost all carbohydrates and sugar's resulted in gaining muscle weight with no fat. When I stop for a burger, I order it with no onions or lettuce ( tomatoes are okay) then I peal back the bun and discard it as I eat. My point is that, you can eat a lot of food if you eliminate most of the carb's and processed sugar, and not put on fat. I attend a gym to keep my body weight around 185. Years of drinking the protein drinks and such didn't seem to help me much. I stayed far too skinny. ( even lifting weights) the body just doesn't seem to process the liquid properly. Anyway that is my anecdotal two sense. Perhaps you will have more luck with the drinks. 👍
