We spend more public dollars subsidizing fossil fuels than we spend globally on healthcare.

We spend more public dollars subsidizing fossil fuels than we spend globally on healthcare. That can't be the right way to do things.

In 2015, fossil fuels will receive $10 million every minute in taxpayer subsidies. If that doesn't piss you off, I don't know what will. http://bit.ly/1Fs2i0x

  14. from the article, "The vast sum is largely due to polluters not paying the costs imposed on governments by the burning of coal, oil and gas. These include the harm caused to local populations by air pollution as well as to people across the globe affected by the floods, droughts and storms being driven by climate change"

while i personally agree with the general message here (we should not be subsidizing the oil industry), I think it's a bit disingenuous to use such abstract calculations for the oil subsidies then compare them to the actual cash calculations for health care.

using a similar financial manipulation I'd wager that the true cost of health care is VERY LOW. many arguments in favor of the ACA suggest that for some part of the expense/return curve we actually SAVE money by spending more...

I'd love to see inverted subsidies on fuel. A fuel tax that drives the price high enough that we consumers would find it cost prohibitive to drive gas guzzlers. An oil tax to drive farmers to use non-oil-based products on their farm land.

  19. Rich folks love their Medicare. Wait till you go to Assisted Living, a much better place than nursing homes. You better have money, cause it's for the rich obviously.

  20. Put the wealthy on social security, then we'd have money for all to live a good quality life during their senior years.
