Lunch out of the building with colleagues is a ritual I cherish and uphold every day I can, which is to say most of them. :-) And if that means a few fewer pubs, so be it. Life is short...enjoy it while you can.

  1. I'm with you, Craig Froehle. Aside from time with my kids, lunch with my colleagues (on the one or two days of the week I can get it) is the highlight of my day.

  3. When I was a grad student, lunch with my fellow grad students and tenured mentors was one of the highlights of my week. Once I became a lowly adjunct instructor, I often got my lectures scheduled over my lunch hour, or found that that was when students could meet with me for help, or that was went professional development seminars were scheduled. [sigh]

  4. I have a personal policy that any meeting I schedule (i.e., I'm responsible for setting the time) that spans noon-1pm, I provide food. I consider it the penance associated with robbing people of their lunch hour.
