ReplyDeleteThe sad fact is that wealthy beach dwellers here on the Florida Space Coast keep lobbying Government to spend $millions to truck in sand for beach renourishment while all the research tells us the sand will continue to wash away as sea level rises, at a rate of 100 feet of beach for each inch of sea level rise. Sea level has risen 3.5 inches over the past 20 years and seems to be accelerating.

Unfortunately, the Fossil Energy Industrial Complex has taken the position that anthropomorphic climate change does not exist and that CO2 pollution is good for Humanity. (sort of like what the Tobacco Industry told us about smoking) We have the best Government corporate money can buy.

ReplyDeleteThe average rate of sea level rise has increased from 3mm to 9mm per year over the past 10 years. If that acceleration continues, we should see sea level rise by 3 to 6 feet above today's level within one human lifetime. https://www.sciencedaily.com/releases/2016/04/160404170302.htm That would essentially wipe out the infrastructure of every coastline on the planet, forcing the relocation of billions of people. It is not just sea level rising, but the changing drought and flood zones that will affect agriculture and food distribution across the entire planet. We are already seeing annual massive forest fires in the West and flooding throughout the central and eastern States, unlike anything in recorded history. This is happening now, and it will take a huge effort to slow the process, never mind reverse it. We broke the climate cycle, and we need to fix it. Sadly, the Fossil Energy Industrial Complex would like you to believe that CO2 emissions are good for you.

ReplyDeleteIt's all about location and elevation. The greatest risk is to low elevation coastlines from Texas to the Mid-Atlantic States with sandy beaches that easily wash away.
