I was walking home from dinner last night with my son and we crossed the street behind two 20-something guys busily walking, glancing around, and staring at their phones.

"Ingress or Pokemon," I asked them?

The one closest to me looks up, momentarily confused, and says, "Pokemon. What's Ingress?"

Turning up the other street, I replied over my shoulder, "It's basically what you're playing, but from Google."

And at that moment, I felt akin with the hipsters...I had stopped playing Ingress before it was Pokemon Go.

  2. Craig Froehle You're missing out on a lot of fun!

"Teen travels to a river while playing Pokemon Go, finds a dead body instead"

  3. Ha, I always knew you were a hipster Craig Froehle. You probably had a long beard with the lumberjack look before it was cool.

  4. Eli Fennell Inexplicably, the Pokemon Go player was (just barely) an adult, which kind of ruins the whole Stand By Me connection. Adults play Pokemon? What has the world come to?!

Now excuse me while I go play this MMO where I'm an elf.

  5. Chad Haney My personal "look" is constant and relatively unchanging because I really don't give a shit and wear what's comfortable. I'm barely influenced by what's available in stores and shop for clothes only when I must due to something getting ruined or wearing out. If there is anything to mock hipsters for, it's the irony in how much effort they put into appearing like they don't care what others think about them.

  7. Ingress is from Google?

I thought they were both from Niantic...

  8. Simon B Niantic Labs was an "internal startup" at Google. It got spun out late last year.
