The new year just cannot be worse

The new year just cannot be worse
If 'tis, I will leave in a hearse
Yes, '16 was trying
Our hopes, heroes dying
The start of a 4-year-long curse?

And then, children, in 2018, President Trump directed the Army National Guard to invade California and impound and destroy every solar panel and wind turbine to ensure that so-called "clean coal"* was restored to its place at the head of the US' energy table.

*Yes, I'll probably be sent to a re-education center for putting sarcastic air-quotes around "clean coal."

What is a "renewable energy" post doing in my "Climate Science & Climate Change" collection? Well, they're inextricably linked. In order to fix the latter, we have to adopt the former...there is no alternative.

This is not just bad from an ecological point-of-view, it's terrifying from a public health point-of-view.

This is not just bad from an ecological point-of-view, it's terrifying from a public health point-of-view.

A mix of big business, ineffective and inadequate regulation, and consumers' lack of giving a damn about where their food comes from has created a situation where virtually all shrimp you might consider eating could contain antibiotic-resistant bacteria. That. Could. Kill. You.

Seriously...this is bad.

Wow!

Wow! And before anyone starts blathering on about "My male physician is terrific," or "My dad was a doc and he helped many people," yes, yes, I'm sure that's true. These results are aggregated across many, many physicians. There are terrific men and women docs just like there mediocre physicians of both genders. But, ON AVERAGE, women produce slightly better results in their patients, ALL OTHER FACTORS CONSIDERED. To find something this significant (as in meaningfully, not statistically) based on something so fundamental is noteworthy. While I'm not a physician, I'm married to one and work with physicians every day, and I think this is likely tied to the macho image of "the decision-maker expert" that men in medicine seem to perceive they need to take on more so than women (again, IN GENERAL...not all men or women, blah blah blah). Getting beyond that would be helpful to all those who are dying unnecessarily. Or, rather, to those who might die in the future.

Worth 3 minutes of your time.

Worth 3 minutes of your time. Yes, it's a bit superficial, but it's all good advice. But the piece of advice he doesn't give you is the most important of all: To have the best chance at being successful, be born into a wealthy family that cares about and supports you.

FTA: The Sierra Club released a statement that called Pruitt "unfit" to lead the EPA. "Having Scott Pruitt in charge of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency is like putting an arsonist in charge of fighting fires," it read in part. "He is a climate science denier who, as Attorney General for the state of Oklahoma, regularly conspired with the fossil fuel industry to attack EPA regulations."

Indeed.
