Back in late 2012, I posted a similar graph with my first 6 cars and said I should use this to justify a 400 HP car.
Prophecy or just luck?
And with a trend line of ~12 more HP per year, if I keep my current car for 8 years, its replacement will have just over 500 HP. [grin]

ReplyDeleteIt would be interesting to do a graph of the same cars with grams C operating emissions / km. The IC vehicles are an easy calculation from gasoline usage. The Tesla depends on where you are getting your electricity.

Aw man! I was thinking IROC Z but thought it might be too much of a departure from the other vehicles, so I went with an older classic instead. No chance I would have gotten the first two, but I'm surprised I didn't think of the 968. How did you like that big creamy 4?
ReplyDeleteMelina M I had dreamed (literally) of owning a 968 since the day they were announced. A 3.0L I-4 is a beautiful thing, and the handling was pure Porsche. I was growing more and more displeased with the Z28 (which was purchased mostly because the 944 was eating me alive in maintenance and I needed something with a warranty and a muscle car seemed like a potentially fun change...it was fun in the same way that jumping off a 30-foot diving platform is...you're going fast, but you're not entirely sure how it's all going to end) when I walked out of work one day and there was a 968 with a FOR SALE sign in the window parked in the campus garage. Fate smiled upon me. I loved it. I'd still own it today, I think, if my wife and I hadn't gotten pregnant with our first kid (NB: baby seats do not fit in the rear of a 968). So, something with 4 doors was required, and the STI was truly a hoot-and-a-half.

Craig Froehle absolutely! In fact, most of my G+ friends came from a car community that I dragged over here when we got sick of the draconian rules and arbitrary site changes. I have a particular soft spot for Porsches, and fully intend to own a 968 at some point. But we'll likely get a 911 (996-997) or a new Cayman/Boxster before then, depending on what I can convince the fiance to be a good idea.
