General assumption larger country = larger population...but Russia is a ton of forest land as well...Bangladesh is right between highly populated India and China...hmm...Nigeria is on the Western coast of Africa...but still a lot of open land for wildlife...(hope I'm not spoiling it, if so, delete my comment) 😂

ReplyDeleteDavid Steinmuller High. The country I'm thinking of didn't strike me as either particularly large or particularly hospitable to a big population. I mean, it's twice the size of California with half the population of the US crammed into it. I was surprised by that.
ReplyDeleteCraig Froehle, moreover, the population is concentrated on the 200km strip from coast and in few cities inland.
ReplyDeleteI lived there from 89 to 93 and from 2000 to 2010. My wife is from this country.
The demographic pressure is horrible. But it is not the worse.
It is combined with poverty, inefficiency of central authorities (they have chosen a federal model which is the worst for such a country, without federating event to gather the citizen), an economy largely based on natural resources, almost no transformation industry or services, too much import, a population divided along religious and ethnic lines, failure of education system since the 90s (largely sponsored by WB and IMF), christian and muslim fundamentalism, corruption at all level of society, failing infrastructures (water, electricity, roads, airports, ports) and lost of traditional values followed by acculturation.
What could go wrong ?
