Northern Europe could resemble Greenland, with much colder, longer winters than currently are the norm, far sooner than we're expecting.

When we let politics trump science, people are needlessly put in harm's way. http://arstechnica.com/science/2017/01/self-censoring-fears...
News flash, this is a huge destabilization of world power, and Putin is liable to launch....if you haven't noticed oceans biological collapse,we probably lost the oceans conveyors, gee think EF 10 mega storm/storm's not unlike the great spot on Jupiter.... except l do believe we're not going to keep up with food demand let alone clean water demand globally.
ReplyDeleteI really hope not. It is still colder than usual where I live and having it being even more cold is something I don't want.
ReplyDeleteOverly hypothetical... As per Michael Mann: they might get colder winter (but nowhere near enough to have an ice cap).
ReplyDeleteGlacial melt was evident during my Cold War submarine patrols around Greenland and Iceland during the 1980s. The boat would get heavier or lighter as we crossed currents of significantly different salinity. Overall, the average salinity of the surface water has been steadily decreasing, creating a more stable thermocline with the deeper higher density/salinity water, and slowing the Ocean Conveyor.
ReplyDeleteYeah Mac,the Argentinians just lost a submarine due to the same factors,l don't think the human specie's quite understands other than a handful of scientist, that we are at a crisis point of if we don't put the Arctic circle back to bed,the overly armed human specie's is about to go extinct in a very profound way....we literally need to be going full tilt boogie, however for whatever reason the so called elites who own the republicon party really cannot figure out how bad they just screwed up....this is going to be very bad as ret.col.Wilkerson stated....as Chris Hedges stated we should basically be taking to the streets however as my wife noted"you can't make anyone do anything"if she then thought holy shit we're democratic, what the hell is a CONservative or a Republiconned party member, they literally are very confused human beings.
ReplyDeleteOoohhhboyyy....it's the current AI and acidification of the oceans that concerns me,what l witnessed 2016 wasn't a very good indicator of the chaos coming if young ideologs can help MSM executive's screw up a election this badly, then we're really screwed as a specie's.
James Michael Campbell I agree with you on everything except the Argentine submarine loss. The US Navy assessment was loss due to short circuiting in the boat's battery well from seawater taken aboard through the snorkel (possible head valve failure) in a high sea state. It probably did not help that their submarine was 34 years old. All of the five boats I served on were decommissioned at 30 years (4 nukes, 1 diesel-electric). I was Engineer Officer of USS Grayback SS-574.

ReplyDeletesciencedaily.com - Greenland glaciers' varied vulnerability to melting: More accurate maps of bed topography reveal physical processes controlling retreat
Actually,we literally will see a cascading effect as the Greenland ice sheet literally shatters and slides...do the visual... especially sea life shock& coastal tidal surge's pretty much like tidal waves except not much recession after ward's,if you thought Sandy's footage looked bad, multiply that by ever Atlantic ocean facing shore line add in nuclear power plants,Ohhhhbbboooyyyy
ReplyDeleteJames Michael Campbell Been there, done that... I even pictured a huge chunk of the Totten causing an important tsunami after sliding into the southern ocean.
ReplyDeleteWould be interesting to model and evaluate the probabilities of events of that type.
We never saw our Ice caps melt. Latest I read on the topic is the likelihood of a surge of 1 meter within 2 decades based on coral reefs study from the last deglaciation, somewhere along the melt water pulse A I think.
The author said in an interview a similar melt event could happen any decade in this century.
I listen to Radio Ecoshock almost every week, it's where I heard that.
Gut feeling,l usually go with them, I've actually been following most of the visual data, and having a background in ac&heating/ventilation,plus living in South Florida for 30+ year's,l noticed the changes, and how they've quietly mitigated for sealevel rise and storm surge....2016 it was actually announced that the FL keys and South Florida were a write off... unfortunately l don't think there's been a anticipation of what is actually coming.

ReplyDeleteThe Worst-Case Climate Predictions Seem To Be the Most Accurate Ones
I live in the Saguenay area up in Quebec, the main difference here is a whole lot more clouds, it's almost uniformly gray 75% of the time nowadays.
This winter was cold compared to the last 10 years. 1st time I see the river frozen solid for so long since I live here...
Meanwhile, it's freaking warm in the Arctic.
Have you heard about those Sudden Stratospheric Warmings? I think it's Climate State that did a video on those...
popularmechanics.com - The Worst-Case Climate Predictions Seem To Be the Most Accurate Ones
Yeah actually l have, and those are not cloud's,believe it or not,it's low pressure steam.
ReplyDeleteThink about,7% more moisture bearing downward, two extreme temperature differences.... literally you need to think of it that way.
East TN,is waayyyy above average temp for the last 10+ winter's, second year in a row no snow just rain.
My idiot brother calls me crazy, however l don't think he remembers hurricane Andrew to clearly....same guy who thinks national guardsmen had their weapons taken away (you know, story, legend, myth, miracle)kinda like the Jesus story except heavily distorted and very inaccurate.
James Michael Campbell I won't believe anything but demonstrated facts :))
ReplyDeleteI've been writng, in Frenchm about climate change for the past 3 years and spent most of the last 6 years watching/reading and listening to climate science and news. Got nothing better to do, really...
I hope you watched some Kevin Anderson, this is a short version.
I have a few climate science play lists on my you tube channel. I mainly follow "Climate State" and "Understanding climate change".
youtube.com - Carbon budgets, why the Paris climate agreement is impossible and stopping 2oC is highly unlikely.
Yeah l pretty much know, however l have two children... gotta try for them, unfortunately Trmpf basically is their suicide front man, they really are insane... shutting down all industry but what is nescassery, then actually turning the oceans over, are really the only chance.... while putting down trees.
ReplyDeleteJames Michael Campbell I don't have kids, so what I do, I also do for your kids.
ReplyDeleteTake care, I'm gone snoozing...
Thanks my brother from another mother.
ReplyDeleteChain reaction of fast-draining lakes poses new risk for Greenland ice sheet
ReplyDeleteDate: March 14, 2018

Summary: A growing network of lakes on the Greenland ice sheet has been found to drain in a chain reaction that speeds up the flow of the ice sheet, threatening its stability.
