To my fellow middle-agers: start exercising if you aren't already.

  1. As a middle-aged woman I'm proud to say I have the heart of a 20-29 old athlete. I had my VO2 max tested in December. All that cycling has paid off! I bike with a bunch of >50 year old people. It keeps us all young and more mentally sharp.

That's not to say heart attacks can't happen because they do. Genetics still play a major role. However, my riding buddies are living proof of the therapeutic effects of exercise on aging.

  2. My recommendation is to do household chores manually. In that way, you are doing something useful whilst getting your exercising done.

  3. Patrik Hanson Not really the cardio or weight training that's sufficient.

  4. Craig Froehle - I guess that depends on what chores you have to do and how you do them. Shoveling snow is better than using a snow blower e.g.

I am actually more talking about the thing called NEAT and not so much chores as a specific thing. Sorry for the confusion.
