Any school day: I have to beg and plead and command my lethargic children to wake up and get out of bed at 7:20am.

First day of their summer vacation: They're both up and busy by 6:45am.

  2. My dad would start making pancakes. The smell was a great motivator...

  4. I've taught my kids I don't care if they're up, they have to be quiet and amuse themselves.

  5. Daniela Huguet Taylor We have a rule that the kids pretty much follow: Don't wake Mom & Dad up unless it's 8am or later. But, little feet in the hallway and the toilet flushing aren't exactly easy to sleep through.

  6. Craig Froehle Oh, I can fall out of a bunk bed and remain asleep.

  7. I have never been an early riser.  I don't think I've ever gotten out of bed willingly before 10am.  Not even for Christmas morning as a kid.  Sleep is one of the best presents.

  8. When I was a kid I had to take the bus to school at 7:20am.

The have summer vacation this early (today)?

  9. Patrik Hanson Technically, their last day of school is Tuesday, but it's only a half day and is mostly the closing ceremony. So, yeah, effectively they're done for the summer (school starts up again mid-August).

  10. Craig Froehle - And Monday is no school because of Memorial Day, right? I guess Tuesday doesn't really counts as a school day. Still, quite early though.

  11. That's so funny, restarting mid-August, it being called a summer break. Impossible to do in Spain, the children would melt into a puddle.

  12. Patrik Hanson Well, the kids gotta help get the seed in the ground. Oh, wait, that's right...we haven't been a farming community for ~200 years. ;-)

  13. Craig Froehle - Now you made me think of food.
