When we let politics trump science, people are needlessly put in harm's way. http://arstechnica.com/science/2017/01/self-censoring-fears...
Brain sports are the only worthwhile sports!
ReplyDeleteI have a lot of issues with physical sports. They glorify primitive behavior and violent competition, and do absolutely nothing to advance humanity. Athletic sports distract society from what affects people's lives. It's pablum. It costs communities that can't afford it a lot of money. It causes enormous harm, costing society money and lives. Legions of kids today have suffered injuries by the time they're 18. Before they've even started their lives they have joint problems, back problems, damaged knees, brain damage, on and on, that will detract from their quality of life for the rest of their lives and create a financial burden for society. It ridiculous.
Phillip Landmeier I think sports has a role - a lot can be learned from competition and there are health benefits from athletics - but I totally agree that society's obsession with sports is far too huge and misplaced.
