  1. And yet, they totally botched Batgirl's mask...

  2. Anthony Barber - Perhaps they didn't want a blackface controversy.

  3. Finally. I've been waiting for this so long (since the custom made ones two years ago).
Not yet available where I live though.

  4. David Brennan maybe the message is, "girls can ALSO be heros"

  5. David Brennan thanks :)
I got THAT message from my brilliant grandparents and mother. The world needs more of THEM

  6. David Brennan I and my kids (boy and girl) love them. I think it is much because I have not tried to make a fuss about it. My son and I even won a LEGO competition where we presented a Friends Space theme.

  7. cecilia FXX except for Harley. She's a psychopath. How is that a role model? Might as well have Lego Dexter toys with kill rooms.

Not that they are not adorable...don't get me wrong. But Harley?

  8. Christina BlackFeather I don't know about specific characters.
I'm only referring to the basic hero idea

  9. The "message" is that these are girls and girls can be heroes, too. If you interpret that as meaning they're strictly for girls, I think that suggests a perspective problem on your end.

You know that because a lot of people think something, they're not necessarily right?

And you know that it's also Google Search that lists things like conspiracy therories and holocaust deniers before true results?

  11. cecilia FXX heroes are fine, but Harley Quinn and poison ivy are NOT heroes.

THEY ARE VILLAINS!!!!!! Ivy wants to wipe out human life!!!

This is not about boys vs girls or feminist crap.... it's about labeling psychotic killers as heroes.

  12. Christina BlackFeather The heroes need villains to fight, no?

  13. David Brennan That many people stereotype these and other toys into "boy toys" or "girl toys" doesn't mean that it's how we should do it. Right? I mean, what makes these for girls more than for boys, in your opinion?

  14. David Brennan OK, so what if LEGO is marketing these primarily at girls? Is that a bad thing? Last I checked, boys tend to play with LEGO more than girls do, so there's clearly some opportunity to increase the rate at which girls feel included and/or are attracted to them. If this does that, I'm OK with that, because I think LEGO are one of the best possible toys for all kids.

  15. David Brennan You know they make male figures in this form, too, right? It's just a different form factor that tends to appeal more to girls (on average) than the blocky form does. If they were all pink and advanced stereotypes like many of the Friends sets do, I'd be a little more irked, but these seem to me a bit more empowering than those. Personally, I'd like to see these forms included in some updated and expanded Ideas sets, like the anthropology museum, science lab, and a hospital OR (as examples).

  16. Craig Froehle Then package the villains separate. Little kids are not going to understand that.
