My professor of stratigraphy had once this saying: "Our bodies live at best 100 years, our names live at best few thousands years, our actions live at best 10,000 years, our genes live for millions of years and our atoms live billion of years. But I prefer a bottle of Chateau Petrus with friends than simply being a group of atoms of carbon, hydrogen and oxygen."
I started living this way around age twelve. It's very positive.
ReplyDeleteAt 52, with one child in college and one in high school, this hits pretty close to home. (52? Shit! I'm old! Hard to see it on the page.)

John Hummel, you are not old. My grandma who is your age x 2 exactly says she is not old. She is of advanced age.
ReplyDeleteI like your professor's philosophy, Olivier Malinur! And yours. (I tip my glass to your grandma.)
