Anyone know of a fast (i.e., not through Chicago) way to get from Champaign, IL (home of the Univ. of Illinois) to Indianapolis, IN? We have a student who doesn't have a car, but needs to get to Cincinnati, and all the buses out of Champaign seem to go ~6 hours out of their way to hit Chicago first rather than going straight East to Indy. TIA.

  1. Chicago is like a black hole that sucks everything into it and bogs it down with perpetual road construction and a generally overflowing road system.

  2. Lyft? Bit expensive (~ $181) but might be fast. Google Maps shows Megabuses but those are slow by hours.

  3. Robert Rambusch The crappy Greyhound website just plops in a script that calls a map to give a shortest route, but the actual route goes through Chicago. :-\

  4. Cliff Bramlett I've taken Megabus between Cincy and Chicago many times and actually like it quite a bit. Only about 30 minutes slower than driving myself and I can read, watch movies, nap, etc. And for usually under $25. Hard deal to beat, actually. They just don't serve Champaign.

  6. Craig Froehle, perhaps it was their listed run times that made those routes appear so slow.

  7. Yes do not use greyhound if at all possible. Besides crappy service they are unreliable. I’m a senior at the U of I in Champaign. Suburban Express and Peoria Charter are the main busses I know of, but both only go to the Chicagoland area.
