ReplyDeleteYup. From the perspective that the Conservatives' major power base was centred in the Canadian oil industry, it makes a certain amount of sense. Unfortunately, our government was controlled by a climate change denier for 10 years; he did everything in his considerable power to obstruct or defund climate change and environmental science. But we have a chance to make a fresh start now that we've sent him and his party packing. We'll have to see how that plays out in Paris in a few weeks.

ReplyDeleteIt's always striking to see that "Liberal" can mean very different areas of the political spectrum depending on the local context. A good reminder to be careful with labels.
ReplyDeleteAlex Lopes if you're speaking of the Australian 'Liberals', they were once upon a time, hence the name. As recently as post Vietnam we were welcoming boat people with open arms
