The sooner we (the US) do away with privately run health insurance companies, or at least GREATLY reduce the scope of their role in our healthcare system, the better off we'll be. A profit-seeking health insurance company's core mission (making profits for its shareholders) is at odds with its social function, which is maximizing the health and wellness of the people who need healthcare. Capitalism has a role in healthcare, but it is likely to be far more limited than what we currently permit.

ReplyDeleteWe have to all realize that forking enormous sum's of money to middlemen for an essential service, makes no sense. Unless we just want to subsidize them to our detriment. Insurance companies dole out healthcare on the basis of profitability to them and their shareholders. The sooner they are taken out of the equation, the better. Gov't needs to step up, and do what's right for it's citizen's. And we need to see that they do.
ReplyDeleteYes, its called single pay and the government does it. There is a place for insurance. It is for the 1%. Its to pay for private hospitals and other perks.
