Yet another reason I don't support fracking.

Yet another reason I don't support fracking. It doesn't appear to be able to be done without jeopardizing the environment, both natural and developed. Carbon-free energy sources should be the only ones being developed further.

  1. Yet Eastern Ohio is banking on it.

  2. This is not caused by fracking. This is naturally occurring like it is in many parts of the world.

  3. I agree. These people need to get the frack away from our nature.

  4. David Westebbe CSG extraction is fracking, dude.

Craig Froehle to be clear I'm totally opposed to fracking but I'm afraid this particular one appears to be a beat up. The CSIRO are saying this instance is naturally occurring and have been calling on people not to ignite it like this for a while. For reference the CSIRO is our premier, world leading science body, so good in fact that this anti science government we're stuck with at the moment have been trying to destroy them.

  5. Peter Billing I stand corrected.

I was under the impression that the gas escaped from natural porosity in coal.

  6. I can understand the need to continue to support fossil fuels while we build up the infrastructure to support carbon free energy sources, but there definitely needs to be more effort to get that infrastructure up and running.  Seems to me that Tesla are the only ones making real, tangible strides in bringing that about for the general populace.

  7. I honestly don't believe that we'll ever be oil and gas free. I certainly believe we can minimize the use but even Tesla is a huge consumer of oil and gas. Everything they make uses oil in some form or another. Everything around us is made with oil. One day maybe...maybe one day Tesla will make a vehicle affordable enough for the masses.

  8. Keyser Söze What you say is true.  Use of petroleum as fuel is the issue.

It has many other valuable uses, like making polymers, lubricants and solvents. We need to preserve it for more valuable and less environmentally unfriendly uses.

  9. Peter Billing Thanks for clarifying that. I'm less mad about that situation, but I'm still opposed to fracking.

  10. Keyser Söze We can use oil for lots of things -- plastics, lubricants, chemicals, etc. -- we just shouldn't burn it up for combustion energy!

  11. I don't get it...what do you mean everything is poisoned?

  12. Dang Vicky...that's a lot of poisoned stuff. I don't know...I don't care about chemically enhanced livestock, chickens etc. Pesticides and preservatives don't bother me one bit. I prefer foods that are pest free and chemically engineered. Theyre cheaper anyway! As far as natural fossil fuels being recovered from underground and subsequently using them everyday...I have no problem with that either. I have more of a problem with people going to great lengths to deceive and lie to the general public about how fracking has contaminated well water or springs or lakes and rivers. That's what I have a problem with. Special interests pushing their agendas on lies is more than shitty. Do we need alternative fuels? Yes. Is there anything wrong with drilling and fracking for oil and gas? No. Has tracking contributed to an increase in earthquakes around the immediate area of Frac sites? No. Even the liberal Obama EPA has said there is no proof or evidence as such. Is there such a thing as global cooling or global warming due to pollutants in the environment. No. I have not seen real proof of that either. Is there such a thing as climate change? Yes. But climate change has been occurring since the beginning of time. Not as a result of anything else. Climate change, like flammable gasses coming out of the ground is naturally occurring. I don't know...this can be debated forever but unless each and every single one of us starts using nothing but alternative fuels, recycled goods, pesticide and hormonal free foods etc...then we can't point the finger at others.

  15. Let me guess, Republican Governor? The company that has the drilling rights paid money into the Governor's campaign funds

  16. Oh my... Somebody should remove that gas in a safe and time tested manner which could be used at the same time in a way to power the world. If not, the two cowboys could get hurt.

  17. John Kanold
That's the point. Fracking is not a safe, time tested manner.

  18. If it was safe, we would not be polluting the streams, rivers and aquifers of massive areas of the US.

  19. That's not true brother...not at all. Give me one honest example of a Frac location polluting any river or stream. Its simply not true bro.

  20. In the meantime, we should maximize the use of gas's like natural gas, biogas, lpg; their current supply is seemingly inexhaustible

Select renewable energy sources over fossil Carbon, if you have that option, but lighter density Carbon gas is better than heavier coal and oil.
