If you've watched or been watching season 2 of Marvel's Daredevil on Netflix, you may have enjoyed Jon Bernthal's portrayal of The Punisher, a violent vigilante with a compelling backstory. Well, he's getting his own spin-off series. Personally, I'm pretty excited. If the writing and story development for that show is as good as it is on Daredevil, Netflix may have another hit on its hands.

Its like all the comics I read when I was a kid are getting movies and shows!
ReplyDeleteAs good as Daredevil, maybe. Not as good as Jessica Jones, though.
ReplyDeleteFen That's the point...we Gen-Xers are finally getting some love from the entertainment industry. ;-)
ReplyDeleteAwesome. Although, yeah, it's gonna be hard to beat Jessica Jones. Although, I reckon a Punisher series could be pretty dark too, maybe just not so much of the psychological violence of JJ.
ReplyDeleteLove Daredevil and Jessica Jones but I think the Punisher spinoff could get to be too much like a mob movie. I realize that gangs are a part of the whole Hells Kitchen but I am afraid with Punisher that will be the whole focus.
ReplyDeleteOh, I dunno, Richard Nicholl. Looking at JJ and DD, and the interaction Punisher had with DD, I could see a lot of character development within a Punisher series. I mean, 13 episodes of Punisher basically ripping through the gangs of the Kitchen wouldn't really fit the style of what Netflix has been doing with Marvel properties.
ReplyDeleteAlthough in both JJ and DD, the superhero activities were part of the story, they weren't the only part, and sometimes weren't even the biggest part of the story. I'd like to think that a Punisher series on Netflix would explore the fine and constantly shifting line that Punisher walks between good and evil, between compassion and sociopathy, and the torments and challenges that brings, both to Punisher himself, and people he cares about. Looking at the pedigree of the other two properties on Netflix, I'm hopeful that could be the case.
