We're deep in the post-Steve Jobs decade.
All Apple's trump cards seem to be played.
Blockbusters are rare.
Investors beware;
Poor numbers just led to a downgrade

i phone is good but what magic does i phone 6 does?
ReplyDeleteI love it! ;)

ReplyDeletetell me what does i phone 6 does that no other phone can do? does it have pet unicorn?
I don't remember if it was Drucker, but I seem to remember reading somewhere that a key goal of management, particularly of an effective leader, is to ensure that the business can meet its goals even without that leader. I'm sure Jobs did his level best to keep the creative engines running after his departure, and it seems the company is fresh out of big ideas.

ReplyDeletei got i pod it has not really change in 20 years. the nano can get radio. yet my touch can,t
chris rice I fail to understand your question. You want to know what Iphone can do that other phones can't do? How on earth should I know?
ReplyDeleteThe post is about Apple company because there is no more innovation at the company and it is no longer selling as many phones as it used to do. The post caught my eye because there's a company in China that is outperforming Iphones.
That said, I was talking about the Limerick as I have been writing them on Google Plus for 5 years.

ReplyDeleteyou just gave me the answer. you really have no clue if i phone 6 is better then other phones.
chris rice I wasn't talking about the iphone. I don't give a shit about the iphone. I was talking about the limerick. I'm a writer/poet/author.
ReplyDeleteThe post is also talking about Apple corporation, not the merits of a particular product. Do you even bother to read the financial pages? Also the article was about Apple declining sales. None of this has anything to do with whether the Iphone is a good phone or a bad phone.
For the record, I once had an iphone for a week before returning it and swopping it for a Galaxy 6. And I once had an Apple laptop for three months before I returned it for a full refund.
And the post isn't talking about whether the iphone is better than other phones or not.
Get a life.
Unfortunately, Apple was doomed precisely because of Steve Jobs.
ReplyDeleteHe decided to run on a continuous marketing event mode with pseudo innovations and expensive hardware and services. No product-mix, no mid range offer.
Once a limited market is saturated and you can't create the buzz anymore, the company dies little by little.
I wrote that 5 years ago and I stick to my opinion till now.
BTW, this diagnosis applies to most high tech companies which fail to diversify on time.
Before we write Apple's obit, they pulled in 40% of the total profits of the top 150 publicly traded companies in Silicon Valley last year. They're doing ok.

Agreed. Olivier Malinur
ReplyDeleteJim Douglas If you're working on a 'what the market will bear' model as opposed to a 'cost plus' model, it's more than possible to make more profit than other companies. The problem arrives when other companies begin to have superior products and work on a 'cost plus' model. There's a lot of competition out there, and some companies are less greedy than others. They will happily settle for a cost plus model and if they have superior technology, they will easily wipe out a company like Apple. Give it a few years. It's only just begun...
ReplyDeleteTessa Schlesinger When Jobs returned to Apple in 1997, it was effectively bankrupt. He took it from bankrupt to the most valuable corporation in the world by repeatedly building superior products that people were willing to pay for, first computers, then iPods, then iPhones, then iPads. Take iPads: I'm typing this on a five year old iPad 2. It still works fine. My Nexus 7 tablet, on the other hand, dropped dead within two years. MacBooks are consistently rated most reliable, justifying a higher price tag. I say this not as a fanboy (religious fanatics of any type annoy me), but as a professional programmer who respects technology that works.
ReplyDeleteJim Douglas That was then. Over the past few years, even when he was alive, other brands started catching up. Towards the end, that wasn't happening so much.
ReplyDeleteI did pre-press print for a while. In the 90s, you would find only Apple computers in pre-press print as well as ad agencies. By 2009, this had changed to 50% pc and 50% apple. Software like Adobe photoshop, InDesign, Illustrator, etc. could be run as successfully on Apple as it could run on PC. I have worked on both Apple and PC when it comes to Artwork, and I prefer PC simply because I'm more accustomed to it, and there aren't as many steps.
It's also interesting that Hollywood and animation doesn't use Apple. They use various Ubuntu products.
The thing is apple still can introduce many features android has and boost its sales again
ReplyDeleteYash Trivedi That is true, and I would have thought that Tim Cook would do that. I'm wondering why he hasn't.
ReplyDeleteTessa Schlesinger Till the company can maximize it's profits with very minor upgrades only on its name it will continue do so and focus on other spaces maybe
ReplyDeleteLike they haven't bumped up 480p cam of MacBook Air I guess compared to hp's more thinner laptop containing a 720p
The business model is flawed. It reminds me the Tulip madness in The Netherlands during the early 1600s. Sure, running on novelty is very profitable on very short term. But, as a company must innovate, it can't also run only on innovation, especially pseudo innovations.
ReplyDeleteThe first threat will be front competition, like Samsung, playing both on low prices and innovation. The second threat is the "mind dryup".
To curb the first one, Apple started this absurd patent war. To solve the second is much more problematic. Creativity is not something you can control.
They should have adopted a different strategy. It might still be time but they better haste.
Time to do some tax loss harvesting with my Apple stock
ReplyDeleteI decided to read the comments. I wish I didn't. But that is a cleverly written limerick. 👍
